The Cat Sparks Art! Team:

Cathy Sparks

Cathy Sparks

President & Director

Cat Sparks Art!, Inc. is a life-long vision of Cathy’s in the making. As a degreed fine artist, with a concentration in Graphic Design, Sparks enjoyed a long career in Marketing and Graphic Design. At the master’s program of The Expressive Arts Institute, San Diego and the European Graduate School, Switzerland, however, she was captivated by mosaic art and mosaic sculpture. It was there that she merged her therapeutic interests with intermodal art-making in all art disciplines: writing, visual art, music, dance/movement, and drama.

Presently, Cathy Sparks teaches mosaic and mosaic sculpture at UCSD Extension and Mira Costa College. She also leads mosaic and other art classes at Cat Sparks Art!, elementary schools, and community venues.

David Pleasant

David Pleasant

Consultant/Collaborator

Pleasant has a 35+ year career as an award winning performing artist, writer, innovator, and specialist. As president of RiddimAthon!,Inc. he continues to present the performance and lived-in legacies of Gullah-Geechee culture (the formative African American traditions of the GA and SC Sea Islands and coasts). That drum-inspired legacy includes historical and artistic traditions which undergird much of early American history and performance culture. Its reach touches the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, Europe, and Africa. In that respect, it naturally creates a multidisciplinary scope to examine and promote genuine harmony: culture, history, art, health, and their relevance in a genuinely diverse society.

Judy Henry

Judy Henry

Art Partner/Studio Assistant

Judy has always been creative and decisive. She knew as a little girl that she wanted to be a dental hygienist and enjoyed that profession as a career for over 45 years. Although she was always creative and even had a floral business called The Shell Seeker, it took a mosaic class with Cathy to help her open to her confidence as an artist. Today her artist is flourishing at Cat Sparks Art! Judy, with her effervescent personality is always happy to see and connect with folks. Her invaluable assistance keeps the studio running smoothly.

Gabriel Dice

Gabriel Dice
